Mikkel and Bo joined us in Kirinda for some fishing. Their trip coincided with some rough weather but the boys showed some Viking fortitude and kept at it through the unseasonal wind and rain. The top water action was on the slow side with the guys claiming a few small GT’s. Mikkel had a cracker of a grouper come up and eat his Hammer Head I-Cup in eight meters of water and put a serious bend in his Westin popping rod as it tried its best to barrel back down to its hidey hole in the reef.
We had most of our action on Jig catching a variety of species with Bo leading the charge over the first two days as he had previous experience in the jigging game while Mikkel was new to it having only bottom bounced for Halibut in the past. The Spanish Mackerel where running rampant blowing out of the water and shooting 15 feet in the air as they hunted over the deep reefs so the guys went home a bit lighter in the jig department but there were no complaints around the dinner table as Bo kept us in fresh fish each day. Mikkel got his rhythm in the jigging department after I set him up with a Stella 6k FA on a Westin PE 3 jigging rod claiming a beautiful snapper as well as the biggest GT of the trip in 70 meters of water.
Overall it was a challenging trip with one good day’s weather out of 6 days fishing but Bo and Mikkel stuck to their guns and fished hard without complaint or any sign of moping through rain wind and big seas and made the best of it which paid off for them with some great fish.
