Our first Single Angler Group of 2016 in the Andamans got started with Igor and his wife Natalie from Ukraine arriving at the guest house, followed by Seth from Michigan USA , Bent from Norway and Paul from the UK. After a quick freshen up and a spot of lunch the group of anglers got busy setting up their tackle in eager anticipation of the next day’s fishing.
Everyone was up and ready the next morning. After an hour’s journey in calm seas they arrived at the fishing spot and Seth was the first to land a GT on his Hammerhead popper. The fish were biting nicely and he landed three more in quick succession. There was a lot of excitement when Seth hooked into a 35 kilo white tipped shark which was released after a brief fight. Igor’s 24 kilo Barracuda was the catch of the day. The group finished off with a couple more nice size GTs.
The next morning Seth again opened the account with a decent size GT in shallow water. Igor then hooked into a similarly sized fish followed by Bent with a slightly smaller GT. The group then changed their location to try jigging in deeper water. Seth pulled out a small Yellowfin Tuna and soon everyone else was into fish as well. Bent lost two largish fish after they pulled out a fair bit of drag. The group landed a total of 7 fish in this jigging session before they moved on to target bait schools. The skippers Arjun and Kotesh with their keen eyesight made it seem simple to spot them. This move proved very productive and they ended the days fishing on a great note. The evening was spent relaxing and talking about the day’s events over refreshments and tuna dip with crackers.
Day 3 & everyone was up at 6 a.m. a bit earlier than the previous day. The group arrived at their new fishing location at 9 a.m. and began an eventful popping session. Everyone landed fish with Igor’s being the largest, a decent GT that put up a great fight! Seth got followed by a big Dogtooth Tuna that missed the popper.
Day 4 started even earlier with everyone on the boat by 5:30 a.m. The plan was to travel to a much further location and seemed like a good move. The fishing proved good with a mix of GTs and Tuna. Igor and Seth each land nice Red Bass while Bent landed himself a decent Dogtooth. There were a couple of Grouper and Jobfish as well that were caught during this session. The group then proceeded to a popular jigging location and spent a good hour landing an assortment of fish – mostly GT. Paul pulled out 3 GTs in quick succession and Bent lost a big Dogtooth after it stripped line from his reel.
The next morning was a bit windy when we reached the fishing spot and the action was a bit slower in the morning but not unproductive. Seth again opened the account for the day with a decent size GT. A while later he hooked into the biggest GT of his trip and was thrilled to bits with the amazing fight it put up in shallow water. Bent also landed himself a beautiful Coral Trout. Igor and Paul also pulled in some nice fish but Seth’s was still the biggest GT for the day.
The last day of fishing was overcast with a fair bit of wind. The group still managed to find fish feeding later in the day and came home happy and tired. The end of a great fishing holiday with new friends and great memories.
